About

Appeals Granted is provided by attorney Ron Gore as a tool to assist Virginia attorneys in keeping up with changes in Virginia law. This site provides no analysis of the cases cited. It only reports those cases for which the Court of Appeals has granted a petition for a rehearing en banc or the Virginia Supreme Court has granted an appeal.

If the opinion from which an appeal has been granted has been covered by Steve Emmert at virginia-appeals.com, this site will link to the page containing his analysis. Mr. Emmert has consented to this systematic linking to his eminently insightful analysis, though he is not affiliated with Appeals Granted or Ron Gore, PLLC in any way.

Using Appeals Granted

Because the number of appeals granted by the Supreme Court in a given week varies, there is no guarantee that all cases will be posted within any particular time period after they are granted. However, the goal is to post all cases within a week. Content associated with each case will change over time as new information is acquired, and the case will be updated after the Supreme Court enters its decision.

The Search box available from each page permits you to search for any text within a post or for all posts associated with a given tag. The search page returns excerpts of selected posts, with the searched for text highlighted.

The Tag Index page organizes each post by “tag.” A “tag” is a descriptor applied to each case post. For example, a case in which the issue on appeal to the SCV involves the CAV’s application of Rule 5A:18 will be tagged with the descriptor “5A:18.” You can use the Tag Index page to browse by topic.
